The first round of renewable energy bids held by the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, approved twelve PV projects of different sizes and 200 MW cumulative installed capacity. All twelve PV projects will sign a 20-year PPA with NEPCO, Jordan’s National Electric Power Company, at a price negotiated for each project separately. All round one PV plants have received the $0.169 per kWh tariff, except Kawar Energy’s 52.5 MW plant, which received $0.148 per kWh.

Jordan has a target to install 600 MW of solar PV capacity by 2020 as their electricity production currently depends on imported oil and natural gas. Mohammad Hamed, Minister of Energy & Mineral Resources, the Electricty Regulatory Commission and leading PV developers such as Kawar Energy and Martifer Solar will be attending MENASOL 2015 (13-14 May, Dubai) to develop further PV projects in the country.
