The plan is to build an alternating-current power cable system that will help integrate and transmit power from the 400MW Horns Rev 3 offshore wind farm.

The new Horns Rev 3 wind farm is located in the North Sea, about 30 km off the western-most point of Denmark, Blåvands Huk. ABB’s project scope includes the technical design, engineering and production of the high-voltage cable system including accessories and installation.

Energinet.dk shared that while ABB will deliver the just under 33 km long submarine cable connecting the offshore wind turbines with the coast at Blåbjerg, Prysmian will deliver the land cables. The cable connection bringing the wind turbine electricity to Energinet.dk’s substation in Endrup by Esbjerg will be either 50 or 60 km long, depending on which route The Danish Nature Agency will suggest in the EIA process.

Until the end of the year, the team expects to enter contracts for other large plant sections such as transformers and the large platform which will be installed at the offshore wind farm, where it will collect the electricity from the wind turbines, according to project manager Søren Juul Larsen, Energinet.dk.

Construction is scheduled to start in the spring of 2015. The plant must be ready by the end of 2016.
