Mesalands Community College has set up a North American Wind Research and Training Center Advisory Committee as a part of its Wind Energy Technology Program.

The committee includes representatives from a cross section of the energy industry like BP Alternative Energy, Shell Wind Energy, Florida Power and Light, General Electric, Babcock & Brown, Suzlon Wind Energy, Vestas-American Wind Technology, Inc., AES Wind Generation, and Edison Mission Wildorado Wind Ranch, according to a report filed by qcsunonline.com.

The naming of the advisory committee is another significant step forward for the wind programe, especially after the exposure the programme received on the television network CNBC. As a result of the TV programme, Mesalands’ wind energy program received more than 200 inquiries and 67 applicants.

All technical programmes at Mesalands have advisory committees to provide the college with latest information in  technological training and to assist in the acquisition of donated items from industry that will provide meaningful hands-on experience for students.

The College acknowledges that the high demand for wind turbines is creating a shortage of trained and qualified wind energy technicians who provide maintenance on the turbines. NAWRTC at Mesalands Community College provides instruction in wind turbine technology, turbine maintenance, tower safety, and wind economics.
