npower renewables has been given consent by the Planning Inspectorate to build a six-turbine wind farm on land to the east of the A68, approximately one kilometre south-east of Kiln Pit Hill in Northumberland.

Kiln Pitt Hill Wind Farm was the subject of a public inquiry which concluded recently. It was held before a Government Planning Inspector at Tynedale Council offices in Hexham.

Joanna Thompson, principal developer, npower renewables said the company will continue to work with the local community to keep them informed throughout the next stages of development and as the wind farm is constructed.

The installed capacity of project is around 12 megawatts. Proposal for the wind farm was first announced in 2005.

The project would generate enough electricity to meet the average annual electricity needs of some 6,200 homes. In the past, the company has shared that the scheme near Kiln Pit Hill is within an area outlined in the emerging regional spatial strategy, as an area that is particularly suitable for wind farm development. The area is also identified in the adopted Northumberland County Structure Plan as an area of least constraint for wind farm development.
