Pulse delivers fatigue monitoring system for offshore wind farm

Pulse Structural Monitoring (Pulse), an Acteon company, has completed a subsea integrity monitoring project on behalf of DONG Energy at the Gunfleet Sands wind farm in the UK sector of the Southern North Sea.

Pulse supplied a system to measure the motion of a number of unsupported sections of subsea cable to determine the impact of tidal activity on the fatigue life of the cable. A technician checks INTEGRIpods prior to deployment.

Pulse supplied a system to measure the motion of a number of unsupported sections of subsea cable to determine the impact of tidal activity on the fatigue life of the cable.

The project began in November 2013 and included project management, sensor delivery, offshore support and post processing data analysis. Pulse used four of its INTEGRIpodTM motion data loggers, which provided a detailed record of the cable’s motions throughout the study period. This data was used to confirm the acceptable fatigue performance of the cable.

HBC divers were contracted to install the subsea data loggers.
