Suzlon considers Ontario as a venue for manufacturing

The decision to enter Canada, according to Tulsi Tanti, chairman and chief executive of the company, could come soon.

India’s Suzlon Energy Ltd. has indicated that it might consider “the Ontario market as a potential home for new manufacturing, citing what it considers the right combination of policies, infrastructure and local activity.”

Tulsi Tanti, chairman and chief executive of Suzlon Energy Ltd., told the Star that the Ontario government’s proposed Green Energy Act is a “very strong” initiative that helps set the province apart from other jurisdictions in North America.

Tanti said the company considers three factors while considering the location for manufacturing. These are skilled manpower, logistical costs and the government tax support.

Recently, a utility regulation expert had mentioned that the new Green Energy Act in Ontario removes some of the uncertainty around municipal permitting and grid connection policies. In their new Ontario wind power study, Guy Holburn, Associate Professor, and Charles Morand, researcher, Richard Ivey School of Business, recommended that the Ontario government should come up with a “bold” legislation on renewable energy, with long-term capacity targets, to attract wind developer investments
