Peel Wind Power Ltd, which is a company of the Peel Group, has confirmed that a wind farm “which is similar in size, scope and the setting of Sheerness” has been switched on in Liverpool.

The last of the four turbines, each 125 metres tall, has just been commissioned and all are now generating electricity at the Port of Liverpool.

In another wind energy-related development for the company, Swale Borough Council’s planning committee is due to make a decision on the planning application to build the wind farm in the Port of Sheerness March 5. Peel Wind Power’s plans for the four-turbine scheme have been recommended for approval by planning officers. The decision was deferred in February to allow councillors to make a site visit. The Port of Sheerness Wind Farm is proposed to consist of four turbines generating approximately 10MW of renewable electricity and will be situated along the sea/river frontage at the Port of Sheerness.

Richard Dibley, Peel Wind Power’s development manager, said the 10mw Port of Liverpool scheme was an example of how a similar scheme could work well in Sheerness.

Peel Energy’s onshore wind portfolio is in excess of 450MW and its projects include: England’s largest onshore scheme, Scout Moor in Lancashire which includes 26 2.5MW turbines; Royal Seaforth Dock Wind Farm in Liverpool; Port of Liverpool Wind Farm; and a planning application for the Port of Sheerness Wind Farm.
